Did it ever belong to the American people or has it always belonged to the US Treasury? What does the US Treasury do with this gold if it no longer backs the American dollar?
It is stored, mostly at Fort Knox. It is the property of the United States. The gold is used to settle debts between countries that will not accept US money in payment of debts. The US went off the gold standard in 1972 when the British Ambassador arrived at the Treasury’s gold window and carried enough US notes to take 1/3rd the US gold supply. Since that would have sent the US into a severe depression, the US defaulted and went off gold.

U.S. silver dollars have been valued by coin collectors, but also have a background to an assessment of information for fans of United States history.

Carson City Morgan (CC Silver Dollars) demands a wild place in American history. After the quantities silver were discovered in the 1850s in Carson City, Nevada, the town built and maintained a mint which produced what is known as the CC Morgans.
