Wii Dance mat help !!

how do you set up the wii dance mat ? i have plugged it in but when i go on the gae Dancing stage hottest party and go to play if dosnt work ?
when i plug it in is there ment to be a little light come on or do i need to configure it can some one help please?
tryed it in all ports just tryed it again and its workin many thanks !

are you plugging it into the right spot? theres 4 spaces for game cube controllers. it goes in the one closest to the front.
