The 1999 silver proof state quarter sets (10 coins) are almost $300. Can someone tell me why?

I’m trying to understand this. Any idea what percentage of $300 might be attributable to 1) first set in a series 2) lowest mintage of all the sets 3) silver prices and 4) Christmas season. Any opinion if the 99 sets will increase much more in value??

You already have a good understanding of why the 1999 sets are worth more. Lower mintage, fewer going around will probably mean that they will continue to rise in value over the years.

First in the series: The state quarter program will end next year (unless the unlikely happens and a bill is passed to include US territories in the state quarter program for one more year of coins). People want to have a complete set and due to low mintages the early ones are more difficult to get.

As the price of silver rises so will the coins. Though silver’s not high enough to justify $300 for the set.

Christmas may or may not have anything to do with the value. Mint sets always make good Christmas gifts but I believe they will probably retain their value after the Christmas season is over.

George T. Morgan, designer of coins

1889 Morgan Silver Dollar was one of many silver dollars which was designed by George T. Morgan and minted in the United U.S. in the time span from 1878 to 1904. Morgan began his career as assistant mint engraver and worked into a tape recorder head. His design skills excellent recording what remained Chief for eight years. Despite its name, is famous for many U.S. coins, which is best known for The Morgan dollar.

Morgan Silver Dollars

Morgan Silver Dollars have become very popular with coin collectors and are still highly sought after today. They are very hardy and get help through many years, such as investments, and collectibles. Its durability is the result of the large amount of silver in each coin is more 24 grams per coin. The Morgan dollar is worth more than its original value by the high silver content. The 1889 Morgan dollar content is 900 silver and 100 copper with a weight total of 26.73 grams.

The complete collection of Morgan Dollars were struck at five houses in the currency of the city: Carson City, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver and San Francisco. The mintmark can be found at the back right below the eagle coin \ 's tail feathers. Each mint mark of the designated city to which the dollar was minted in. For example, CC was in Carson City, OR to New Orleans, D for Denver, etc. "In spite of all Morgan dollars have more value than its nominal value, of 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar has more value and is the most sought currency throughout the Morgan Dollar series. This is partly because of its connection with west. Carson City had the lowest mintage coins to Carson City held the most value. Morgan Silver Dollar is widely enjoyed and sought after for its historical tradition Western and explicit design. The money that was used in its design was the Comstock Lode, which reminded people of one of the greatest "hits silver" in history.

Design Morgan silver dollar

The front of the Morgan Silver Dollar 1889 Statue of Liberty is facing left. Giving round it is the date of the currency (at the bottom), the phrase "E Pluribus Unum" on it and the thirteen stars on both sides. The design of the Statue Freedom is actually the result of sketch made by Anna Morgan Willess Williams, a schoolteacher in Philadelphia. When "E Pluribus Unum" was chosen to be used, that said, "From many, one." The reverse of the 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar has a bald eagle sitting on a combination of branches and arrows their wings. Part of the corona surrounding the eagle and the words "In God we trust" are just above the head. The edge of the 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar "has UNITED STATES OF AMERICA "at the top and" one dollar "on the bottom, with a star that separates two sentences. The bald eagle was not an instant success with the public when it first appeared, but fell in love with this symbol. About the Author:
