What is the best way of finding and receiving government grants for a first time home buyer?

I’ve been searching the internet to try to find the best site or information on what government grants are right for me and the best way to recieve them. I recently went to a NGC (National Grants Conference) and I wasn’t comfortable giving them a thousand dollars just to give me information on how to get a government grant. I know this is not an easy process, but I just want to know what would be the best way for me to find a grant that would be right for me and the best way to get that grant for a first time home buyer? Any suggestions would be great, thank you.

The Housing and Urban Development in their Grants Available page makes it clear that they do not provide grants to individuals — hence no grants for a person to buy a home http://www.hud.gov/grants/index.cfm

“While HUD does not offer direct grants or loans to individuals, we do work through local governments and non-profit organizations to make financial assistance and counseling available.”

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two FREE sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on “how to get grants” or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

WORD OF CAUTION: When thinking of government grants, go only to a .gov website – that is government website. Don’t ever go to a .com, .net or .org website because those sites are just out to scam you

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Check with your realtors for programs and assistance you can get for being a first time home owner. There are also non profits who can give you downpayment assistance (but will not cover your entire mortgage) such as Nehemiah Corp http://www.getdownpayment.com

Numismatics involves the study of banknotes, coins, stock certificates, medallions and money. It is believed that the coin was created during the reign of Julius Caesar, who also wrote the first book on this subject. This topic is very interesting because each coin or medal represents a particular culture, time, politics and economics.

Numismatic are the people who study the appearance and especially the history of currency above. Not to be confused with collectors coins. Collectors of coins, unlike coins, interest themselves only in the collection of coins and the associated prestige. A numismatist, however, can also be a collector or coins.

Over the years, the popularity of coin collecting has increased immensely. Animals and people celebrities who represent a particular period are the most popular.

In general, numismatics are interested in the origins, appearance, production and variety of money. Its aim is to explore the different types of currency and its role in the story with the help of information mint. The facilities at the place where it was made a particular currency is called its mint. Numismatic are also involved in the classification or authentication of the currencies in order to discern its market value. in order to facilitate this process, were established classification systems of many currencies.

At present, there are three facilities of third parties involved in the authentication of banknotes and coins. They are: NGC or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, Sarasota, Florida, PMG or paper money Classification, and the PCGS or Professional Coin Grading System, Newport Beach, CA.

PCGS was established in 1986 and is a third-party organization that authenticates and degrees of commercial exchange. This independent body providing expert opinion on the grade of the coin. NGC, other third party established in the institution 1987, provides services to numismatists in particular. The PMG, unlike the above bodies, and only genuine paper money is a department of PCGS.

There are some components used in the classification numismatic coins:

1. Brightness-that determines whether a particular currency has been in circulation. If a currency is higher grade, should be free of all defects and imperfections and technically intact.
2. Preservation of the surface. The location and type abrasion on the surface of a coin is an important factor that determines the degree of currency. This does not mean that decreases the degree of abrasion of the coin. For example, if a coin is cute, but has a negligible abrasion on the bottom, it will not affect the value of the currency. But there is a difference in the case of abrasion is at the center coordination or in the front.
3. Strike. Strike is the process of designing a coin when the coin is the hallmark of a planchet. The strike does not weigh much in the standings.
4. Coloration. A few coin collectors believe that the color of a coin of the impacts of its value greatly, especially when the coin is silver or copper.
5. Aesthetic appeal. There are a few currencies that are not absolutely perfect, but a collector can find a currency value or appeal. However, even these currencies should be examined before its true value is determined.

If you have absolutely no experience in grading coins is better than seek the help of experts. The coins are important not only for people who love the study and collection of coins but also to society as they are representatives of the different historical periods. You should always have the basic skills necessary to collect the coins.
