“Proof Only” copy of a book?
Is this what it sounds like? A pre-editing version of the book for editing? Is it rare?
I have a copy of The Piebald Standard by Edith Simon that says PROOF ONLY on the cover of it. It also has the title in large type face,
“Published: May 28, 1959″ and “Price: –/30″ on the cover.
Is it valuable?
Yes, you are correct about the “Proof Only”. The worth of any book is determined by the demand of that book. I looked up your book on the Alibris and Abe Books sites and came up with prices for the regular editions in the teens up to a hundred plus amount. Nothing popped up for the “Proof Only”. The proof or uncorrected proof publishing are usually worth a little more. Especially if a fan of that author comes across it. There are certain criteria that books must follow when being listed somewhere to be sold. Here is one of many sites that can assist you in getting this info: http://www.ehow.com/video_4414963_determine-price-old-book.html

Creative writing is very similar to a sales process in a business scenario —
- To identify a unique need in your niche market;
- You will find a way to fill this need;
- To differentiate your way to fill this need (that makes it unique);
- It establishes a price for its unique proposition, and to promote a compelling way to attract your audience;
- To add a benefit to the buyer also obliged to take action purchase.
When the draft for the original copy of a web project, keeping in mind the above scenario, it would behoove to follow the Five P Drafting Web in mind.
A brief explanatiion for each of the five P's Copywriting for the Web is provided below —
- Problem – The task of convincing someone implies a need to help realize the buyer is a dilemma that must be addressed. This dilemma or problem helps create a sense of urgency that requires action to solve the problem at hand. Your copy has to present this problem, so it can begin the process of convincing the buyer that can fill your need, or solve your problem.
- Promise – You promise the buyer that the object of his copy, in essence, your sales pitch will do good for them. For example, if you have the problem of a dripping faucet, now the promise of your solution solve the problem.
- Test – Demonstrate a single proposal, so you can put their money where their mouth is. In other words, who will introduce the features – like your solution works to solve the problem. And you differentiate – why your solution works better than any other. Its aim is to make your solution irresistible to the buyer.
- Price – Price is key to any business proposition. Not only do you have to make its solution more brilliant than the competition, but also have to sell their proposal so that the buyer is convinced they are doing themselves a favor by investing in their solution. This is the icing on Cake – transporting their solution is worth every penny of its price, even if the cost seems to be somewhat higher than other similar, though inferior solutions offered by competition.
- PS. – This is where you add a little decoration on the icing – an additional benefit that complements its solution. For example, you may notice that your product not only fixing a leaky faucet, but also do a great job in that shower head dripping or leaking gutter. This is where may push the undecided buyer is at the fence to go ahead and make that leap.
This intuitive formula has worked in virtually every type of business scenario. And if you incorporate it into their efforts copywriting, can only be a pleasant surprise as you go about creating captivating copy which, in turn, could create cash for you.
