Basic Coin Collecting Strategy

Basic Coin Collecting Strategy
By Robert L. Taylor, JD
Collecting coins is a longer term goal, however, the happiness of the search is always more important than the rapid completion of a set of coins. The inherent enjoyment is always found in the collection process, and satisfaction is at its completion. Having completed a new goal, set quickly, will start a new path to new pursuits of happiness.
A collection of solids always have a solid value, at any level or grade. The higher grades, of course, generate higher and higher recognition. The upper grades will require longer-term goals, a greater amount of money, and more levels of frustration and more patience. For that reason it is best to collect a gradual or graduating rate, acquiring coins classified in steps until his "goal coin" is finally acquired for his collection. These gradual steps will offer continuous levels of enjoyment, but with a more positive progress and happier provisions.
If you collect a set Sacagawea dollars, one is facing difficulties in the acquisition of Mint State with more frequently than in the test coin collection. Sacagaweas are not alone in this regard, as of this difficulty is shared by the majority of coin collecting categories. A long time probably because of the popularity and ease of acquisition, modern proof coins are easier and less to acquire. For the collector Seriously, the added challenge of collecting coins mint state, modern or rare, is more stimulating, exciting and rewarding. Now we have four qualifying top companies that strictly follow the ANA guidelines (NGC, PCGS, ANACS, and ICG), acquiring quality coins with a degree of reliability is not always possible. Availability still depends on the laws of supply and demand, but this is not always the challenge.
Despite the high level of personal skills for the grade of a coin, why we invest in currencies that are certified and qualified for the "Top Four", is that it creates a market for us when we want to improve and sell. It is not our According to the note that matters is what will bring us the greatest return on our investment of time and money. The grade of a coin is everything. Coin prices are based in degree. Buyers want the highest grade, but more important to them is an accurate and reliable level. Personal opinions on the extent of a currency is not satisfactory. Therefore, a certified professional and qualified currency eliminates the main problem in buying and selling a currency.
The first four give us stability, reliability and reputation. They also guarantee the quality and authenticity of the coin. This is what needs our currency market, when you upgrade and sell. Buying coins premium is always an invitation to being scammed, someone usually loses, and the degree is always concerned. Investing in raw coins should be avoided for the average collector, whenever possible. An alternative is to agree to pay the cost of grading and the coin, if the grade represented by the seller (or above) is the result, otherwise the seller pays for its rating.
The added protection of a sealed box, – a slab – largely inhibit the deterioration of the currency exposure and damage. Also encourage the maintenance of the degree of currency and recognition. The coins we need to improve marketing and selling has been enhanced with the currencies of certification and classification, because: 1) are not larger pool of buyers, 2) the issue of quality is eliminated, and 3) selling at book value and above is much more likely. People do not mind paying a fair price for a sound currency, but I care about being deceived by a distorted level.
Do not hesitate to buy a coin to a lesser extent than they expect or seek to acquire. Consider that the average collector coin is constantly appreciating, if not always steadily or consistent. The laws of supply and demand always a hand in the amount or value of any currency. After an investment in a coin is better than no investment. A 3% savings account interest is not the investment, not pleasure.
The strengthening or improving the level of its currency in a gradual process, much more nice, it adds some more activity, allows completion of sets (albeit temporary for the actual grade desired), the cost is less or out, and makes the continued progress. The fewest number of coins available in the next higher grade, the cost of each update is higher, and put a higher value on their time, makes the approach of buying only the "goal coin" undesirable. Doing so will degrade your progress, enjoyment and appreciation.
The challenge of the acquisition graduated last longer, adding to the excitement of each new addition. With each higher step up, comes an increase in investment in time, their patience, and money. Secondly, the coin you have will be appreciated, while the collector strive for the goal of "currency" may be waiting months and years to find the right coin – no benefits for him in that period. Third, the collection will grow, so does your recognition of what he has. How quickly you can complete your collection is not the goal, is the way it takes to get there.
Finally, do not worry too much about either getting a bargain, or pay the book value or more. The value and the value of your collection will not be much affected by anyone. The time spent obtaining a price supply is the only activity more often in vain. Your time is not spent in search of happiness is wasted. Bidding on 20 different auctions with the aim to get a bargain price is foolishly applying one's time.
"Teach us to make the most of our time,
for we may grow in wisdom. "
– Psalm 90:12
Our time has a far greater value than each of us wants to admit. Not to be missed, but spent on positive thoughts and efforts. It is better to pay the book value, avoiding stress and loss of time, which invest their time on more interesting activities.
Enjoy the collection.
