The Committee to Protect Journalists is a nonprofit organization established with the objective of protecting press freedom worldwide. Not much information on which members of the organization are and whether it has regional branches in addition to its headquarters in New York. The organization publishes annual reports dealing with the issues of media freedom, especially, in the margins of the issues of standards of means of communication and professionalism. As International Institute reports, CPJ reports are not prepared according to the standardized methodology, is no list of issues according to reports made, and the reports are not intended to compare countries with the past or other countries. The reports are descriptive and focus mainly on problems identified in the country. A total of 141 countries covered by the report. The criteria by which these countries include not mentioned in the report, but the list is visible that the more developed countries are not present. The report does not indicate the source of information underlying the report, and to the extent it can be seen from the report itself, both national and regional reports are compiled by teams working from a single region. The reports of 2000 and 2001 are available on CPJ's Web site.

In terms of content, the reports focus on media freedom with reference to a number of issues. They focus on the framework legal activities of the media described the legal restrictions with which the media are facing, especially in the field of Libel laws, laws that limit disclosure of certain areas, and laws that limit access to information. We also provide information about government interference in editorial policy of the media and in the selection of editorial staff. Report records of other types of pressures from government institutions as well. Other pressures include financial pressures and various legal actions to limit the ability of independent media to publish certain types of information. The information on violence and harassment against journalists committed by Government agencies also reported, as well as data on arrests and prosecutions of journalists. Other types of non-violence and harassment committed by the institutions State also reported.

The reports give very precise data about the censorship and banning of the media and the arrests and trials of journalists and in some cases are presented with very detailed accounts. The structure of reporting varies across countries depending on the type, frequency and magnitude of the problem, but not no great difference in the level of the data presented in each case.

CPJ's Web site regularly and frequently update the records of events that are linked with the restriction of media freedom in the countries included in the report, these updates relate to individual events in different countries.
