Do the 13 layers of granite on the Statue of Liberty’s pedestal represent anything?

I am working on my education degree and the teacher I am working with is teaching about the Statue of Liberty. We have read about the different parts of the statue and what they mean, but at one point it says the pedestal is made of 13 layers of granite but it didn’t mention if that was significant or not. I am wondering if those 13 layers represent the 13 original colonies? I hope someone can answer my question for my knowledge and my classes knowledge.

It seems (indeed) they represent the 13 colonies formed America in 1776. But frankly this is not a confirmed historical fact. It could just be a coincidence.

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty, formerly known as "Liberty Enlightening the World" was the creation French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, a gift from France to America. Its construction brought hundreds of workers who work 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, 9 years to complete in 1884. 350 pieces were packed in 214 boxes and sent statue from France to New York. The statue was rebuilt in Bedloe Island, now called Liberty Island, in the port of New York because that's where people get their first view of the New World, as it entered the harbor. The statue is a universal symbol of freedom that welcomes all immigrants come to America.

Located on a 12-acre island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift from French people's friendship to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on 28 October 1886, appointed National Monument in 1924 and restored for its centennial on July 4, 1986.

In transit, the Statue was reduced to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 cases. The statue was re-assembled in its new pedestal in four months. In October 1886 28, the dedication of the Statue of Liberty took place in front of thousands viewers. She was a centennial gift ten years late. "The history of the Statue of Liberty and the island has been one of the changes. It was placed on a pedestal granite in the courtyard of the star-shaped walls of Fort Wood (which had been effected by the war in 1812.)

History

The construction of the statue began in France in 1875, by sculptor Auguste Bartholdi. The end date of the individual sections was in June 1884, and was in Paris until it was dismantled in early 1885 for shipment to the U.S.. Engineering Assembly of the structure was done by Gustave Eiffel. The French frigate "Isere" transported the Statue from France to the United States. In transit the Statue was reduced to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 boxes.

There are 354 steps inside the statue and pedestal. There are 25 viewing windows in the crown. The seven rays of Liberty's crown symbolize the seven seas and seven continents. Liberty has a tablet on the left hand that says "July 4, 1776" (in Roman numerals), Independence Day United States of America.

Symbolism

The classical appearance (Roman Stola, sandals, facial expression) derives from Libertas, ancient Roman goddess of freedom from slavery, oppression and tyranny. His right foot is raised in the motion. This symbol of Liberty and freedom is not at rest or in attendance at the port, there is progress, because her left foot tramples broken chains at her feet, in symbolism of the United States want to be free from oppression and tyranny. The seven peaks of the crown represent the seven seas and seven continents.

America probably could not having won its independence from the British during the American Revolution without the help of the French. France provided arms, ships, money and men to the colonies American. Some French – notably the Marquis de Lafayette, a close friend of George Washington – even became high-ranking officials in the U.S. Army. Statue of Liberty, representative of freedom in the world, shines in the port of New York. Created by Frenchmen Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, the statue was a gift from France to the United States.
